  • Introductions


  • Upcoming 1.8 Release -
    • Containerized AGW is enabled in Magma master.
    • srsRAN UE attach/ping test passed with AGW running AWS graviton2 instance and NXP LS based HK6050 systems with Ubuntu 20.04/5.4 kernel.
    • Arm CI Containerized AGW build job enablement.
    • 3rd party deb packages are stored in magma artifactory. This includes OVS DKMS "openvswitch-datapath-dkms_2.15.4-8_all.deb" package which contains the OVS source code with GTP patches applied. The OVS packages are built and installed on the target through agw_install_docker.sh ansible script. OVS support is capped at Linux kernel version 5.8.




  • Partner system Enablement -
    • Enablement of containerized AGW services on NXP LS based Arm Partners systems (Hawkeye, Nexcomm, Sercomm, Wirelesss2)
    • Sanity check: Run srsRAN UE ping test 
    • Issues faced by partners -
      • LSDK supports only 5.10 kernel. But OVS is capped at 5.8  kernel. Testing completed only on Ubuntu 20.04/ 5.4 kernel.
        • NXP team can be pulled in to support Ubuntu 20.04/5.4 kernel on partner system if required.
      • Ansible script looking for hard coded strings like 1. Ubuntu distribution 2. Interface names as ens5 and ens6 3. Netplan config yaml file name is cloud based. These can be fixed by additional checks in the script.
    • If partners can complete the srsRAN test, we can update the supported devices in Magma documentation as part of 1.8 Release.
    • Bare metal service enablement is low priority as of now.



  • Enabling Arm CI using partner systems -
    • Arm partners can start building the internal CI by automating srsRAN test with/without orc8r(headless mode) in their lab.
    • Internal CI can be hooked into Magma CI as GHA self hosted runners or through firebase. Wavelabs team have already integrated their internal CI for 5G tests as self hosted runners. Same model can be followed. https://magma-ci.web.app/
    • Benefits:
      • Sanity is checked for every PR merge in Magma master on partner systems.
      • Can start voting (-1) against a PR if internal CI fails.

  • Integration test with different Radios -
    • Based on the input from FreedomFi, following Radios are used:
      • Sercomm Englewood, Sercomm HGO, Baicells Nova 436H, Baicells Nova 430i, Baicells Neutrino 4
    • Partners can either validate against these Radios or any Radio of their choice.
    • C5G have done integration tests with Tier 1 Radios.


  • Magma deployments using Arm devices -
    • Arm can connect the customers interested to deploy Magma AGW for Fixed wireless access and Private LTE/5G use cases to partners and system integrators.


  • Demos and announcements -
    • Arm will work with partners to advertise Magma AGW based solution using partner systems in different forums like Arm dev summit, Magma Forum etc.,


  • Roadmap -
    • Containerized S1AP test enablement - Covers LTE/4G tests
    • 5G test enablement on Arm - OAI team is developing containerized 5G tests similar to containerized S1AP tests.
    • Arm partners can automate it in their internal CI after the above tests are enabled.
    • Enablement of OVS-Userspace + DPDK for higher throughput and cleaner Multi-Tenancy. Interested companies can collaborate with Arm.
    • Work with CSP: Arm AMI listing in AWS Marketplace
    • Kubernetes based AGW deployment test
